Sachi Miyachi, The Cloister

In Sachi Miyachi’s work ‘The Cloister’, the visitor can walk endlessly in the shape of an eight, the sign of infinity. The work invites you to reflect your being and self-reflection. Miyachi plays with the contrast between nature and human: by looking inward, the viewer broadens his view outward

The Creative Mountain Studio was asked by Sachi Miyachi to make the architectural design for ‘De Kloostergang’ a work Miyachi made for Kapellenbaan. The Cloister is an artwork that is part of an artistic route along other works of artist in the northern part of Limburg, The Netherlands. Location

about the work from the artist:

Contemplation in a contemporary chapel.

In Miyachi’s work ‘The Cloister’, the visitor can walk endlessly in the shape of an eight, the sign of infinity.

The work invites you to reflect your being and self-reflection. Miyachi plays with the contrast between nature and human: by looking inward, the viewer broadens his view outward.

Miyachi’s installations are often linked to performances and tied to a location. The large structures are made by herself, in an almost ritualistic and obsessive way. The attention to shape, materials and detail betrays its Japanese origins. Her installations depict her vision and response to the environment, whether it be the social, architectural or natural environment, as in this nature reserve.

‘De Kloostergang’ was made possible in part by R&R Van Rens Boomteelters, who generously made the plot available.
